I found another one I wanted to share with you.
Now the series has definitley come to an end. I promise you I will return to Åke Danielssons Cardump, fully equipped and prepared and I will take gigabytes and kilo's of pictures, I'm sure there are many enthousiacs like me out there waiting for pics. For those who just can't have enough of Åke Danielssons Scrapheap, here are the only internetsites which cover the same subject. Hope you enjoy them just as I did. Site 1 Site 2 Site 3 Site 4 If you want to visit this site yourself, go to: Kyrkö just outside Tingsryd in Smålanda. Here are the coordinates: 56°27'59.01"N, 14°39'4.81"E (Google Earth: 56.4662279164, 14.6506545563) You don't see anything in Google Earth, but if you're on road 119 heading towards Tingsryd you bound to see the sign on the left side of the road. His cardump is just before the little town calle Ryd. Don't mind looking for Kyrkö, this place is apparently not worth showing on any map at all. If you liked this this picture, it's just before this cardump. Perfect spot for fishing, relaxing, making out or just plain sex in the woods. There's enough moss to suits everybodies needs  Here are the coordinates for that spot: 56°27'50.14"N, 14°37'20.80"E (Google Earth: 56.4641917862, 14.6216985969 ) -----------------------------------------------photo 11 of 10-------------------------------------------------------- This cardump is one of its kind. It's beautifully placed in the west south of Sweden in Kyrkö just outside Tingsryd in Smålanda in a densly forrested area where a few roads crosses the country. This cardump contains more than a hundred car wrecks from the 1930's to the beginning of the 1970's, wrecks that are in various degrees of decay and disintegration. Its originator was named Åke Danielsson. At the end of the 1930's he built himself a simple house on the location and then lived there until 1995, long after his retirement. During this entire period, his dwelling consisted of a house of about 15 square metres, made tight with moss and without water, a sewer or electricity. In the beginning, Danielsson supported himself by cutting peat in the bog, but he gradually went over to operating a car dump. From the 1950s on, for more than 25 years, he took in cars to be dismantled and used for parts. What could not be reused was put out in the area around the old peat bank. (source) We stumbled upon it by accident. Not by driving by it (we missed the spot and had to drive back to find it), but on the internet. Me and my girl had a blitzkrieg visit to Sweden (we're from Holland), one day trip, and hadn't anything planned. I searched the internet in a internetcafe/supermarket in Helsingborg for places to see and I happened to see a picture of an old rusty car with a link to a website. Clicked it and I thouhgt, "WOW! I have GOT to go there, no matter what!". We drove for over three hours to get there. The truth is, I've been looking for years for real life sites containing old rusty vechiles to visit, and haven't found one at all. And, out of nowhere, I happen to stumble on Åke Danielsson cardump. I love this guy. Unfortunately he has passed away in 1999. The cardump itself is awesome, so many decaying cars in a swampy forrest. The place itself is either stripped clean of any salvagable parts and partly vandalised. People take things, move things, bend things, destroy things. I think it is an important aspect of the whole beauty of this fantastic place. It is people's creations from the beginning and the magic of finding something beautiful, getting a trophee or reminder back home should be a part of that site. Not that it should be stripped completely bare, but I don't mind much. |
